County Durham: February 2011
Bishop Auckland FC now have their very own permanent home ground thanks to a brand new state of the art Stadium located at Heritage Park in County Durham. This creates a new beginning for the club since leaving their old ground at Kingsway in 2002. During this period the club had to play at other nearby clubs such as Shildon, West Auckland and Spennymoor. Hundreds of ticket holders turned out for the opening ceremony as well as shareholders, honorary life members and sponsors. 100 balloons were released by local children and 105.9 Bishop FM.
Abacus Lighting have been a part of the club’s transformation by supplying 16 Challenger® 1 floodlights and 4 no. 18 metre base-hinged masts. Further still Abacus has installed car park lighting, comprising of their Antares lantern range as well as 4 no. 8 metre root mounted tubular steel columns. The lighting will enable the club to extend play and practise into the darker evening hours or during poor weather conditions. Bishop Auckland FC have a strong football history starting from their formation in 1886 and the opening of the new ground is a real achievement. Their new stadium will enable the club to build on their previous success.
The club is enjoying playing under the floodlights and hopes that the new stadium will become a real icon in the area.
