Abacus stump the competition
ACT Lighting Design Awards 2013.
Canberra, Australia: December 2013
Abacus saw a winning result on Friday 22nd November at the ACT Lighting Design Awards 2013 as our joint-project with ARUP and Cox Architecture at the Manuka Oval, in Canberra Australia, won the IES Lighting Society “Lighting Design Award of Commendation” for New South Wales.
Abacus used the latest technology to ensure that Manuka’s Oval stadium lighting is the most sophisticated of any ground in Australia, utilising 564 floodlights attached to 6 bespoke 45 metre masts with a distinctive head frame. Each mast contains four different types of floodlight – wide, medium, narrow and extra-narrow – which are fanned out to ensure an equal coverage on the playing surface.
This award further acknowledges the quality of product and service that Abacus provides throughout our unparalleled proven track record of stadium lighting including Lords, The Oval, Edgbaston, Trent Bridge and many other international stadiums such as Emirates Cricket Ground, Dubai, Kensington Oval, Barbados and Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
This is well-deserved recognition for an excellent project with great benefits for the design, install and client teams, and for the Canberra sports scene as a whole.
