Floodlighting at Aylesford School and Language College
Full size sand dressed Tiger Turf HP18 synthetic surface for both football and hockey.
Warwickshire, March 2007
Abacus Lighting Ltd has successfully completed the floodlighting installation at Aylesford School and Language College, Warwickshire, on behalf of Warwickshire C C. The complex includes a full size sand dressed Tiger Turf HP18 synthetic surface that is being used for both football and hockey.
The installation utilised the new flat glass Challenger® 1 floodlight ensuring zero upward light, minimal overspill and greatly reduced glare. To ensure ease of maintenance, the tried and trusted HL250 base-hinged raising and lowering mast was specified. The HL250 uses a hydraulic counterbalance, which attaches to the base of the mast and safely lowers the mast to ground level providing hassle free maintenance.
Mark Jeffery commented, "Abacus Lighting was selected due to their excellent project management, clarity of design, commercial awareness and to ensure the stringent planning requirements were fully met. It was also essential due to the tight time scale that the successful contractor met the programme outlined and this was achieved"
Our Sports Lighting Design Engineer, James Brunt utilised the equipment outlined to ensured that the scheme met the design criteria, 350lux with a minimum 0.7 uniformity. Flexibility was also designed into the floodlighting system allowing individual sections to be switched providing half pitch floodlighting for 5 a side courts and also a reduced lighting level for training.
