Abacus Lighting installed at Complete Football centre
Abacus Lighting’s commitment to protecting the environment through careful lighting design has helped them secure the contract to supply sports lighting at the Complete Football Centre, Gosforth.
The £3m complex, which opened in October, is set to transform grassroots coaching and is the first of many planned around the UK. Incorporating six five-a-side pitches and a full-size international pitch built to the same dimensions as the new Wembley, it has the flexibility to suit all requirements.
Developed by former NUFC manager Kenny Dalglish and ex-Newcastle and Sunderland player Paul Bracewell, the complex encourages coaching for younger players and small-sided football leagues.
To comply with environmental and planning requirements, Abacus supplied a total of 38 Challenger®
1 floodlights to the main pitch and the five-a-side pitches. Abacus’ Challenger®
range of floodlights has been carefully designed to satisfy the requirements of a diverse range of sports lighting applications at every possible level of competition.
1 range of sports lighting offers a specific light control system consisting of a series of complementary measures to effectively control obtrusive light. Precision reflector systems ensure tight beam control, reducing overspill and directing light only where it is needed - on the playing surface!
The floodlighting was mounted onto Abacus’ unique 15m and 8m raising and lowering masts which enable ease of installation and improved health and safety by ensuring that ongoing maintenance can be carried out at ground level.
Abacus’ Sales Engineer, Luke Adams, commented: "To be associated with such a high profile project as Complete Football is very good news for Abacus. We were chosen mainly for our product capabilities - limited access around the pitches, meant that our based hinged columns allow the floodlights to be maintained where no other means of access is possible." Complete Football were also impressed with our installation facility and our competitive pricing."
Protecting the environment through careful lighting design is a major priority for Abacus Lighting. Overspill, Sky Glow and Glare (the key elements of light pollution) are receiving increasing attention wherever floodlighting applications are being considered and, in the past, sports lighting has provided some of the worst cases of individual light pollution.
Complete Football’s aim is to be the UK leader in providing training and development centres and football for all regardless of age, gender, ethnic group, social background or ability level. Schoolchildren in the Newcastle area will be able to use the facilities through coaching sessions and Newcastle United’s Football in the Community scheme will provide youth coaching and holiday courses.
Paul Bracewell commented: "We have been delighted to work with Abacus on our first site in Gosforth. The whole centre looks great on a night with grass roots football teams playing and training under the Abacus floodlights."
