Standards for lighting the Gaelic sports of football and hurling are governed by minimum levels as set down in the new LG4 sports lighting guide, published in 2007. The LG4 body provides the guidelines to good sports lighting and maintenance for the UK.

The LG4 guide stipulates a minimum lighting level for club competition of 200 lux for football and 300 lux for hurling. Training can be carried out at the lower levels of 75 lux and 200 lux respectively. Higher levels of competition are played at 500 lux; still higher levels are installed when TV coverage is offered.

Most commonly clubs are opting to install higher lighting levels of 250 lux and 350 lux (for both sports). A 6 mast solution is widely installed, while an 8 mast solution provides higher uniformity again. Several of our systems will also allow you to upgrade to the next level at a future date with the base hinged sports mast.
