Briefing paper on Light Pollution Containment

Light pollution is an increasing problem associated with our modern night-time environment. Overspill, glare and sky glow are the key attributes light pollution and have long been associated with poor lighting design and inadequate screening and control of luminaries and floodlights.

Positive steps have been taken through relevant legislation and guidelines, and responsible lighting manufacturers have responded through improved product design and advances in reflector and lamp technology.

Kelvin Austin, of Abacus Lighting recently presented a seminar to the ILE focusing on the technology being applied to aid light pollution containment. This in turn has been turned into a briefing paper and has been accredited by the CPD Construction Certification Service.

Summary

The paper then moves on to outlining the key attributes of effective product design and provides useful information towards aiding product specification for effectively minimising light pollution.
