Standards for lighting a tennis court are governed by a range of national and international bodies, depending on the level of play planned for the club.

Recreational and two levels of competition play (Class III, II, & I) are governed in Europe by a European standard EN 12193:2007, which stipulates a minimum lighting level for each class. EN 12193:2007 recommends minimum levels of 200 lux, 300 lux and 500 lux respectively. National Associations, for instance the LTA in the UK, recommend other levels, typically 350 lux.
