Standards for lighting track and field are governed by a range of national and international bodies.

Training and two levels of competition are instigated in Europe by a European standard EN 12193:2007, which stipulates a minimum lighting levels for each class of 100 lux, 300 lux and 500 lux for Classes III, II and I. Switchdown levels are an often requested feature, allowing independent areas of the track or field to be lit. Abacus can provide this feature to ensure maximum energy efficiency.
