Due to expansion, Abacus Lighting, a world leading provider of external lighting solutions are seeking a field based electrician. The role involves working on our customer sites such as leading sports stadiums, rail, ports, airports and retail carparks across the UK.
What we are seeking:
Electrician with time served Electrical apprenticeship.
NVQ Level 3 or equivalent electrical grade.
BS 7671 18th Edition (update to 18th edition may be sponsored) IEE Regulations certified.
C&G 2391 – Inspection & Testing an advantage.
IPAF qualified an advantage.
ECS Card, Gold or Black preferred
Qualities & Abilities
You must be an electrically biased engineer with experience of working in an installation and maintenance environment. Mechanical background an advantage also.
A proven history of installation, commissioning, fault finding, rectification and experience of maintenance techniques.
Inspection and testing experience.
Logical approach to breakdown analysis (fault finding / problem solving), pro-active maintenance and improvement work, who can demonstrate a sense of urgency whilst never compromising safety or quality of workmanship.
To be Self-motivated, responsible, able to work well as part of a team and on own initiative.
High standard of Health & Safety awareness, and the ability to read and follow RAMS strictly.
A good knowledge of practicing continuous improvement techniques (desirable) and a pro-activeness for improved ways of working offering possible solutions to problems.
Must hold a current UK driving licence.
Shifts and hours of work:
Base weekly hours are 37½, (Average 45 hours per week with overtime)
Some weekend working and Night shifts may be available – premium overtime rates apply.
You will be expected to work away from home on occasions.
This is a Full-time permanent role. You must possess a current, valid UK Driving license.
You must have the right to live and work in the UK.
The role is within the Abacus Lighting Contracts Department working with high mast and column installation. A good working knowledge of electrical and civil engineering would be advantageous. Some of the project work could be for export and therefore may include overseas visits.
The purpose of this role is to manage and coordinate projects and timetables within the Abacus Contracts Department to ensure all objectives are met, safely within timescale and budget.
Qualities & Abilities
The role will consist of, but not be limited to the following tasks;
Preparation and monitoring of project programming, on site start up, delivery, method statements, risk assessments, completion, testing, O & M manuals, will be responsible for a profit margin on each project.
Contact with Sub-Contractors to define and implement plans and projects.
Site visits as and when necessary to ensure objectives are being met by others.
To monitor, report and update on projects throughout their progress.
Preferred Skills & Qualifications
Previous experience in Project/Contract Construction Managing is essential.
Educated to HNC or equivalent desirable.
Health and Safety qualifications and Knowledge of Risk Assessments and method statements – highly desirable.
Current CSCS card holder, i.e. Site Manager would be advantageous
SMSTS card – preferable.
London Underground/Network Rail knowledge/previous working experience – advantage.
MUST possess excellent organisation and communication skills at all levels.
MUST hold full UK Driving Licence.
Hours of Work:
7:30AM – 4:15PM Monday to Thursday (30 minutes lunch break)
The manufacturing team are looking for a self-motivated, enthusiastic welder, who is looking for a permanent role in a busy manufacturing environment. The role will consist of, but not be limited to the following tasks;
Reading and interpreting engineering drawings
Welding street lighting columns (pipe) on a jig style production line
Fettling and cleaning of components with use of grinders
Manually guiding electrode/gun along weld line, most work will be done on rollers, with the pipe in the horizontal position
Setting up of plant and machinery specific for the job in hand
Use crane to load and unload components from jig (crane/manual handling training to be provided in house)
Cleaning all welds, removing excess spatter and slag
Experienced in using a variety of tools common in welding & fabricating
Experienced in understanding and following Safe Working Practices for welding equipment
Maintaining a high standard of quality whilst working to deadlines set by supervisor
Qualifications and Education Requirements
Welding qualifications required, level of qualification depends on experience
Successful candidate will have to go through weld tests in-house to get coded recognition
Experience of manual handling
Good communication skills
Experience in reading engineering drawings Possible overtime available at busy periods

This position will be best suited to applicants with good practical skills and an interest in engineering-based projects.
TRAINING TO BE PROVIDED:
This programme will include: – Engineering Basic Skills training – Day Release at local college – NVQ Level 3 in Engineering- Day release at local college – A Technical Certificate (possible HND or equivalent) – In house training in line with your requirements.
ONCE TRAINED YOU WILL BE ABLE TO – Interpret component drawings supplied as hard copy or computer-generated images. – Use optimum process and correct tools for each stage of manufacture. – Produce components in line with customer requirements. – Checking the component dimensions using a range of measuring equipment to include digital micrometres, height gauges, Vernier’s, and in-process gauging. – Conduct basic routine machine maintenance checks.

The Contracts team are looking for a self-motivated, enthusiastic person, who is looking for a permanent role in a busy construction environment.
The role will be responsible for scheduling the project programmes for our maintenance and installation site engineers, whilst ensuring most effective use of labour and equipment available within given timescales.
Consult with clients and book in site visits, installation, maintenance, and remedial works using available labour and resource.
Ensure correct job type, requirements & duration with Project Managers & Maintenance Team Leader.
Understand any specialist tools and equipment are required and plan accordingly.
issue job sheets and plans of work to engineers.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
IOSH qualification would be desirable.
Previous experience scheduling field engineers’ timetable for work visits across the UK.
Proficient in the use of MS Office, particularly Word and Excel
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
