Challenge:
Llandarcy Academy of sport offers some of the best sports education, function and conference facilities in Wales. The academy already had a lighting system in place, consisting of 24 x kW metal halide floodlights, which were dated and proving costly to run and maintain.
Abacus were approached by the academy to survey their existing metal halide floodlighting system. The findings were that the system had reached the end of its design life, and recommendations included a proposal to install 4 new base hinged masts complete with LED floodlights.
Solution:
- 4 x 20m HL330 base hinged masts
- 16 x 1.5kW Challenger 1 LED floodlights
the Abacus design team were able to put forward a scheme that offered a 50% energy saving to help reduce their energy bills moving forwards. The existing symmetric beam distribution floodlight was also replaced with the new flat glass style optic Challenger 1 LED floodlight, ensuring the new system offers the least amount of obtrusive light onto the surrounding environment.
