St Edwards school is located in the heart of Oxford, and is a fully co-educational boarding and day school. The school boasts an excellent and extensive range of facilities, designed specifically for the many ways in which the school encourages pupils to learn.
Following a stringent tendering process carried out by Sports Labs, Abacus Lighting were successful in securing LED floodlighting works at St Edwards School. The works included upgrading the existing floodlighting system to new LED floodlights, whilst installing a new 500 lux LED system onto the adjacent hockey pitch.
To meet the required specification, Abacus used 37 x 1.5kW Challenger 1 LED floodlights distributed over both pitches. The low elevation asymmetric beam optic worked perfectly in providing a floodlighting system that was compliant to specification, whilst providing minimal overspill on to the surrounding environment.
Before any works could take place, Abacus completed structural calculations to ensure that the existing masts on site were capable of carrying the weight of the new LED floodlight, something which is often overseen. We made sure the relevant calculations were completed and the school were issued with the reports for their records and peace of mind.
Abacus would like to place on record our thanks to Sports Labs and St Edwards School for inviting us to be involved in such a great project.
The Challenger 1 LED range represents the cutting edge of LED floodlighting. With unrivalled performance and the most low profile design on the market, the Challenger 1 LED is perfect for a large number of applications across many industries.
